This weekend is the 20th Anniversary of the Japanese Canadian Redress agreement. A three day event is being held at the Vancouver Japanese language School & Japanese Hall (today) and at Nikkei Place (tomorrow and Sunday). I wasn’t able to make it down today, but managed to catch Kokoro Dance’s performance of Ghosts on the roof of the Sunrise Market on Powell Street. What a powerful piece of dance. A dozen dancers, three bagpipe players and a drummer (refreshingly, not taiko). Everything came together to make this a strange, evocative, lovely piece of theatre. The setting, the audience, the smells. I was entranced . . .
More of my photos of Ghosts can be seen at my Flickr site.
