Tribute Concert to Taiko Pioneer Daihachi Oguchi

Nagata Shochu

On Wednesday, November 12 2008, a once in a lifetime event will take place at Kobayashi Hall as former members of Toronto Suwa Daiko (Toronto’s first taiko group 1982-1992), Yakudo, and Nagata Shachu join forces in a tribute concert to taiko pioneer Daihachi Oguchi. Grandmaster Daihachi Oguchi was the founder of Toronto Suwa Daiko and hundreds of taiko groups around the world. He passed away suddenly in his hometown in Nagano prefecture in June at the age of 84.

In memory of his significant contributions to the art form, and for planting the seeds of taiko in Toronto, these three groups will share the stage and perform a selection of Oguchi-san’s trademark compositions and much more.
