CASTING CALL
An independent film project, Henry’s Glasses, is holding a casting which will take place at the National Nikkei Museum and Heritage Centre on April 9, 2009.
Henry’s Glasses is a short film based in a tough time in Canadian history. The setting for the film is in the Japanese Canadian internment camp known as Tashme in 1945. It’s a tender story about finding and sharing light in dark times.
Synopsis
In a Japanese Canadian internment camp in 1945, Henry, an eight-year-old boy has a mystical gift that makes the extraordinary happen. Even to the old and broken Mr.
Yamamoto, this gift may hold the extraordinary power to make a skeptic believe.
Details
The shooting of the film is to take place in and around the Vancouver, BC area during October 2009. Auditions will be held on Thursday, April 9th at the National Nikkei Heritage Centre, 6688 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby, BC. Following is a character breakdown. All actors must be of Japanese descent, except the two auditioning for the rolls of the guards.
Characters
Henry – 8-year old Male. Henry is a 3rd Generation Japanese Canadian boy and speaks English as a first language and fluent Japanese as a second language.
Mr. Yamamoto – Late 60’s Male. Mr. Yamamoto is a 1st Generation Japanese Canadian man who speaks Japanese as a first language and English as a second language.
Kinoko – Mid 30’s Female. Kinoko is a 2nd Generation Japanese Canadian woman who speaks English as a first language and fluent Japanese as a second language.
Kimiko – 12 year old Female. Kimiko is a 3rd Generation Japanese Canadian girl speaks English as a first language and fluent Japanese as a second language.
Toru – Mid 30’s Male. Toru is a 2nd Generation Japanese Canadian Male who speaks English as a first language and fluent Japanese as a second language.
Guard 1 – Early 20’s Caucasian male.
Guard 2 – Early 20’s Caucasian male.
Notes
This film has been selected as part of Kick Start by the Directors Guild of Canada and is to be directed by Brendan Uegama. The story was written by Brendan Uegama and is a close and personal story, since his father had been interned during the war.
